The 5 Hidden CEO Patterns That Stall Growth [ep. #253]
Hello lovely lady and welcome to The Subconscious Expert!
Do you feel like the bigger your business grows, the heavier everything feels? In today's episode, I'm exposing the five hidden CEO patterns that are keeping your business stuck, and trust me, you're probably running at least one of them right now.
I've watched countless entrepreneurs hit their first big months, then mysteriously collapse back down, or build successful businesses while secretly feeling like they're constantly firefighting. Sound familiar? These aren't flaws or signs you're broken; they're outdated subconscious strategies that got you here but won't get you there. From the adrenaline achiever who thrives on chaos to the "can I hold it?" CEO who hits milestones but can't sustain them, I'm breaking down exactly which patterns are running your show behind the scenes.
Plus, I'm sharing why that "I work best under pressure" mentality that built your business is now the very thing holding you back from scaling sustainably. By the end of this episode, you'll finally understand why strategy alone isn't fixing the problem and which specific pattern is creating your current bottleneck.
Topics covered on The 5 Hidden CEO Patterns That Stall Growth:
Why does business feel harder the more money you make, even when you have the right strategies?
What’s really happening when you hit big months but can’t seem to get back there?
Which hidden CEO pattern is secretly sabotaging your scaling efforts (and how leaving everything to the last minute is just one of them)?
Do you keep hiring team members but still feel like everything’s on your shoulders?
How does your need for control become the exact bottleneck stopping your growth?
What hidden CEO pattern keeps you redoing your offer instead of actually launching it?

[00:00:00] You are listening to the Subconscious Expert, the podcast where your subconscious becomes your one-way ticket to the mind blowing results you desire in your life and business. I've said it before and I will say it a hundred times again, your business cannot outgrow your mindset, and if you wanna grow your business, it always starts with growing your subconscious.
So let's dive into the subconscious breakthrough you so deeply deserve. Well, hello there. Welcome back to the Subconscious Expert. Now last week, if you have listened, I shared a podcast episode around a. Growth and that growth, not failure, which is what a lot of people focus on, is actually what breaks most businesses.
And honestly, I hear it so much that it's like, yeah, that's [00:01:00] exactly what I've been feeling. I've done all the strategy, I've got the, a couple of team members, or I'm hiring or I've got the funnel, I've got the plan. But actually the more I grow, the heavier it feels. It is not feeling any easier. In fact, it, it's not feeling easy at all.
And what I wanted to do on today's episode is to really, um, show you. How growth exposes the subconscious patterns that you have been running in the background. Okay. The ones that were great and probably worked or maybe even kept you safe or scaled you when you had a smaller business, but actually are starting to make you stall once you are starting to scale.
Now I talked about a couple of these patterns. Um, if you have listened to the last podcast episode, you don't have to have listened, so it's absolutely fine if you haven't. But today, as you know the title, I [00:02:00] wanted to walk you through the five hidden CEO patterns that stall growth. And I am sure that you are going to hear yourself in at least one of these, maybe two.
And what I want you to know from the get go, and what I want you to do from the get go is become the observer. So these aren't a lot of proof that there's something wrong with you or that you are broken, or that you have a lot of flaws. It's none of that. These are literal, what we call subconscious strategies that you have now outgrown.
Okay, so I'm gonna dive in. First of all with the one that I spoke about last podcast episode, and the one that I see. Probably the most, predominantly with the clients that I work with is the adrenaline achiever. All right. And, uh, [00:03:00] yeah, I mean, I sat in this camp. I sat in this camp now. This is the business owner.
This is the CEO who thrives under pressure. You will find this type of person, say, Hmm, but Beck, I work best at the last minute. I pull it out my ass and it's fucking amazing, you know? And actually, maybe that's been part of how you got here, isn't it? Don't you think they're staying up late to finish the launch emails, um, pulling a launch together in 24 hours.
Um, and it's probably incredible as well. And um, guess what? It's always worked out, hasn't it? Yeah. Those bursts of chaos. Somehow, some way, some shape or form. It has always worked out, and that pattern works. It does work. And trust me, you know my [00:04:00] backstory, if you've listened far enough back in the podcast, I was named Last Minute Haydon, and so were all of my family.
They still are to this day. That pattern works until it doesn't or until you have a baby, which I learned very quickly. I'm gonna have to work on this now at 5K months. It makes you look gritty, it makes you look resourceful. It's like boom, boom, boom. Let's do this. Let's do this, let's do this. If we look at it bigger, and I'm using monetary months.
As an example here, because it's just the easiest example to use. And you know me, I don't massively talk into this, but you have more of a picture. You can create more of a picture just by talking it this way, right? So 5K months makes you look gritty, makes you look resourceful. I'm flying by the seat of my pants.
Yeah, let, let's do this, let's do that. Let's do this. Everything's last minute scaling to 50 K months or a hundred K months. [00:05:00] Ooh. Oh wowsers. It makes your team feel unstable. They cannot keep up with you. In fact, they get quite annoyed at you behind the scenes. It makes launches feel frantic and yes, okay, you can pull out good work, but I know it's not the work that you know that you can provide.
So although it, it is, it looks good work and it comes across as good, it's not your best. Right? And your body. Your whole nervous system just feels fried. Now, what's happened here subconsciously is that you have taught, you have been taught. I would hazard a guess that you only know how to move when there's pressure.
So actually, if that's the identity that you are currently running your business [00:06:00] from, you will constantly subconsciously create pressure, create chaos. Leave things to last minute to keep yourself going. You will delay. You will avoid, you will wait till it's urgent because your subconscious has linked urgency with action.
Now, the cost that this brings and the cost that I see. My client come in with when they come in with this sort of pattern is they're actually not building from their vision. They're not building from their purpose, their mission, actually what they wanna be doing, and feeling and being. They are building from literally firefighting every fucking three minutes.
And honest to [00:07:00] God, you will not sustain growth in your business on panicked energy. So if you are currently flying by the seat of your pants, leaving everything till last minute, and it's working right now, trust me, in the future when you are scaling, it will become a burden. And actually when you are scaling your business, you want to build from your vision.
You want to build from your mission and your purpose. We don't wanna lose that. So the cost, like I said, is you are just constantly firefighting. Constantly, right? And you might sit in this camp and you might be like, okay, wellers, I feel called out. But what I want you to know and any other patterns that I'm talking about in the rest of this podcast, they can be changed.
We can change the behavior, but more importantly, we can change the identity [00:08:00] that is running the current behaviors too. Okay. The next pattern that I see, not so common, this pattern, but it does slip into quite a few entrepreneurs that I've worked with, is this, okay? It's all on me, and that's how they operate from their business.
And it is the pattern where you feel like everything has to run through you first. Okay? I had so many, I've had so many clients come to work with me who says like, well, I can hire a team, but I'll just be able to do it quicker. Or, I've got a team, but actually like, it's gonna take me time to teach them.
And that's time that I don't have. Now. This is where control comes in. Okay. The hyper independent. Yeah. And. The subconscious has a pattern where you've convinced yourself that if you don't carry it, [00:09:00] it won't get done or it will get done, but not in the way that you want it or how you want it doing. The funny thing is with this pattern is I find so many people who live within this pattern, um, they actually do look to hire.
Right, and they've probably hired a couple of team members and they have this conversation with themselves where they're like, oh, like every team member that I've hired hasn't been able to do it like the specific way that I want. And actually when we break it down, it's because they sabotage themselves and they want to stay so in control that they're not specific with that team member.
In order for them to do the job, they wear the rules on their chest, they close the coat on their chest, and they go, there you go, team member. You fucking guess what you need to do. And when. Then the, then when the team member guesses and it comes back and it's wrong, they go, oh, look. See, [00:10:00] see, I, I knew I should have done it myself.
Well, no, because you haven't explained it properly, because you've sabotaged that. Right? I see it so, so often now, again. It worked when it was just you didn't it, right? When you're building solo and we've got that hyper independence, and again, had probably got you to where you are now, but the moment you try to scale your business, it turns into the bottleneck because.
Your business can only move as fast as one The time you have two, the time that you can fix things or sign things off or approve things, or whatever that looks like it's on you, so you have become the ceiling. And like I said, what's actually happening underneath here is a subconscious equation that control equals safety.
Well, if I can hold it all, if I can do it all, if I can create it all, I can guarantee the outcome. But [00:11:00] actually what I find more than anything in the work that I really do with my clients, especially around boundaries, um, and trust, is that growth really requires you to trust others. I. Even Grace Beverly talked about this, um, I dunno whether it was a podcast episode or a YouTube that I'd watched where she was saying that she found it really hard to let go of that control and she was doing a lot of things in the business that she didn't need to be approving and it was taking her hours.
And she had this moment, this realization where she was like, wow, I need to be out of the weeds so I can run the vision so I can be the vision. Um, and. I can't quite remember. I feel like it was a YouTube. Um, correct me if I'm wrong, but like, yeah, it was just so powerful to see that belief that she held and her being able to switch outta that and actually coming out of the other side and how powerful that was for her.
Now, like growth requires [00:12:00] you to expand the container, expand your business beyond what you can personally carry, because if you can't do that. Then you will only hold what you believe you can hold. Right? Which moves me very, very nicely onto the third pattern. Um, now again, I keep saying this, every pattern, this is a very common pattern.
The third pattern I see is the I, can I hold it? Can I hold it? Can't I hold it? CEO, right? And a lot of. A lot of, um, the patterns I see in this type of pattern, how many times am I gonna say pattern in one podcast episode is that you will hit the milestone once. You will smash the launch target, you will sign the dream client, you will hit a number that you haven't [00:13:00] hit before, and then almost immediately you do something to make it slip.
Now clearly you can achieve it, right? Clearly you can, because we literally have the evidence there in your client base on your stripe notifications. But so many clients come to me and they've had a, a big monetary month, and then all of a sudden they're like, I cannot get back there. Like I cannot. Get back there.
And that is usually because some part of you either doesn't believe it's yours to keep or doesn't believe that you can handle it or doesn't believe that you deserve it. And what happens is. You either move the goalpost, you either get really reckless with money, um, you stop showing up the way that was working, you go and find a [00:14:00] new strategy because you're like, oh, well, you know, obviously this dip means la la la la, la.
And this one is. So deeply rooted in identity because on the surface is we, if we've look, if we look at it, you've got the strategies, you've got the behaviors of someone at that level. You fucking hit it. You've got it in front of you, you've actually achieved it. Which I always say to my clients, this is a good thing because we can use it as evidence for the subconscious when we get back there.
But actually deep down, your subconscious still sees you as the woman who. Can't hold it or will crumble or will burn out, whatever that belief or story is coming up around it. And if there's a gap between your identity and your results, the subconscious will always pull you back to what's, what feels familiar to you.
Um, I have seen so many women hit, um, big monetary months and then collapse back [00:15:00] down like. Double their income for a month and then sabotage it for the next three, and again. You can do it, like, you can literally do it because we've got the evidence in front of you. Um, it's just the, that we haven't had a look at the wiring in the identity of the woman who does hold it and keep it sustained.
Okay, next one is the more money, more problems, which I spoke about on the last podcast episode as well. So it's a bit sneaky this one because. The logicals live in this one. Um, it looks very logical on the outside, like we are being realistic. This is what it is, like this is what I wanna hit. And actually what's happening is that your subconscious is linked growth, like having a lot of growth with a potential loss.
So whether it's more money equals [00:16:00] more rejection. Or more visibility that gives you more money equals more like scrutiny or people speaking shit about you. Um, more clients equals more responsibility and. You show up and you say you want more, but your actions keep pulling you back so you forget to follow up with the really warm lead that you've got, or you stay casual in your content rather than being that kind of leader and, and bringing out your opinions, or you undercharge or you hold onto things in your business that no longer align in your business, and that is because your subconscious is wired.
Growth to equal danger, right? And actually, until we have a look at that belief, nothing's gonna change. Nothing's gonna change around the results. So that's a big one that I see. Um, and lastly, it's the, I'll do it later. [00:17:00] I'll do, I'll just do it later. Okay. This one isn't as common, but I do see it in quite a few clients and it is the business owner, um.
Who is constantly redoing things. We've gotta redo the offer. We've gotta rewrite the website, we've gotta tweak the plan. We've got to change the colors again. And actually, when I say it out loud, they, they feel such like at the start of your business problems, like the things that you used to do at the.
The very start of your business, but you're still doing them now. Um, in the way of like, you are always preparing, we're always in prep. You've got a fucking whiteboard full of things that you wanna do, but actually the um. It's almost like your subconscious never wants to put you in the risk of actually finishing it.
Because finishing it means being seen. Um, it means being [00:18:00] successful. It means being judged. It means finding out if it actually works or not. So actually you stay in the safe zone of, it's almost done. I'm almost there. There's an almost a plan and actually what happens and the cost of this pattern is.
This, this pattern burns so much energy on being in a loop instead of being in the leverage because you don't create any new evidence for yourself. You literally just keep in the planning and nothing ever gets open, finished, never nothing ever gets closed, and your subconscious will just continue to convince you that you're not ready.
Right? And a lot of the time. We don't need more time here. We need to teach your, your subconscious. That one you can complete things and two, that completion is safe. Ah, which one are you feeling into more? So these are the patterns that I see and [00:19:00] I almost call it like the bottlenecks. And again, you might be in, um, a few of them.
You might see yourself more predominantly in one. So the five ones that we've gone through today. The adrenaline achiever. I know there's many of you listening to this podcast episode in that, in that one. Um, the All On Me operator. Um, the, can I hold it? CEO? Um, the more money, more problems, or the, I'll do it later.
I'll do it tomorrow. We'll start on Monday, right? And as you can see, they're not flaws. In fact, every single pattern that I spoke about, I said, they probably got you to where you are today, right? They probably got you, you, they've helped in your business to where you are today. Um, that these are strategies, okay?
These are strategies that your subconscious created to keep you safe. And they've helped you succeed at a certain [00:20:00] level. But I'm gonna say something that a lot of people say in the self-development world, what gets you here won't get you there. So instead of looking what feels sticky right now, I just want you to actually start to have a look at, okay, what pattern am I running?
What pattern am I running because that's where the juice is going to be. That's where we can actually start doing the work. Um, and in the way of patterns, you know, your subconscious all the time is running strategies. Again, this is something that I teach within NLP. If you are interested in doing your NLP practitioner or master's or refresher, um, drop.
Yourself into the show notes and there'll be a link for the wait list for the subconscious institute if you do want more information on NLP only because I've really spoke about it weirdly over the last two podcast episodes. But side note, um, but yeah, your subconscious runs [00:21:00] strategies all the time. So we have motivation strategies, we have decision making strategies, we have buying strategies, we have behavioral patterns, and actually they are.
Automatic programs that your mind is running to save energy. Now, some strategies that we have, sub subconscious strategies that we have serve, serve us, and some of them sabotage you, which are the kind of the ones that we've spoke about today. And actually, what I wanted to do in today's podcast episode is open your eyes to what it is, because when you don't know which patterns are running.
You keep looking elsewhere to solve the problem, but actually we need to have a look at the strategy itself. You know, a lot of people think that they need. More discipline when actually they're running, um, an away from pattern or they need more systems or they need better marketing, when actually you've got a strategy that has linked visibility to rejection.
[00:22:00] Right? Um, so it's really important because once we know this, you then can have that understanding. Um, and I think that's, like I've said the whole of this podcast episode, you know, that's why growth. A lot of the time feels like you are circling the same ceiling. Um, because at the, on the surface level, you've been upgrading your behavior, your environment, your strategies, but the patterns underneath haven't shifted.
Um, but yes, awareness is the first step. Once you see the pattern, we can interrupt it. And once you interrupt it, you can rewire it. So what I want to know. And I'm not gonna tell you how we rewire it just yet. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge. You'll have to wait for next week if you're listening to this on the day that it goes out.
Um, but I want you to just start to become aware. So this podcast episode wasn't tangible [00:23:00] outcomes. You know me, I love her to do an an action step. But today's podcast episode was about awareness. Um, because when we know. We can rewire it. Um, and I want you to build your business and have growth that you can hold.
I want scaling to feel fun and enjoyable and yes, albeit, I can't think of a word right now, but like, yes, okay. It's going to be work and intentional. It requires you to really step up into that next level, but actually we want it to feel like it. It can and will happen. Okay, so next week, if you are listening to this podcast on the day that it goes out next week, I've got something coming.
Oh, yes, I have. Oh yes I have. So if you are listening to this on Tuesday, the 14th of October, next week, I have got something [00:24:00] coming out that will help you not only uncover exactly which of these patterns you're running in kind of chronological order, um, but also how to rewire them. How to rewire them, baby, it is quick, it is powerful.
And it will actually show you the bottleneck behind your growth. That is the whole concept of it. Ooh, I'm very excited to share it with you. So stay tuned. Make sure you come back. Uh, the week commence in the 20th of October. If you are listening to this in real time is when it's gonna be launched. If you are listening after this, you will now be able to access.
Access the thing that I am currently hyping and breadcrumb about, but not telling you anything about. Someone once said like, I was the best hype queen they've ever known. I'm the tease queen. No, I think she called me the tease queen. It was something like that. Um, but yeah, so it be coming out the Monday, uh, the week of the Monday.
[00:25:00] The 20th of October. So keep your eyes peeled. Um, and I'm so excited for this one 'cause it's gonna really help you understand the strategy, like I said. Um, understand where it's coming from and then be able to move through it, rewire it, and. Let it go in your business. Let it go. Let it go, right? That's enough for me.
I will see you on the next episode. I hope you've had a lovely time with me today. I'm gonna shut up now. Bye. I love to see you plugging in and listening to the podcast every week. So whilst you're here, I would love for you to spend a moment sharing your favorite episode, reviewing the podcast, and of course, that Juicy five Star rating.
